Communication Skills an Essential Skill

Communication Skills and Essential Skills

The capacity for language is the primary characteristic that sets human beings apart from other animal species. And the ability to communicate effectively is what differentiates one person from another. The fact of the matter is that in order to be a happy and successful social being, one needs to be equipped with habits for good communication skills, as this is what will make them happy in their interactions with other people.

The process of exchanging information in a meaningful way is known as communication. Communication requires a sender, a message, and an intended recipient; however, the receiver does not need to be present nor aware of the sender's intent to communicate at the time of communication; as a result, communication can take place despite vast distances in both time and space. In order to communicate effectively, both parties must have something in common with regard to their capacity for communication. Once the receiver has demonstrated that they have understood the sender, the communication process is considered to have been successful.

That assertion has quite a few people in a state of shock right now. There is much more to communication than just the words that are exchanged. You could have the entire Oxford Dictionary on the tip of your tongue, or you could have the president's pin for the biggest vocabulary, and you would still be a poor communicator if you had this wonderful idea that communication means words and more words. The reason for this wonderful idea is that you thought communication meant words and more words. In point of fact, effective communication skills involve doing the exact opposite: they involve using fewer words to achieve a greater impact. To communicate effectively, it is necessary to make use of the various avenues that we, as humans, have created over the course of the centuries. Some of them are innate in nature, such as body language, while others are learned over the course of a lifetime, such as the tone of your voice. Finally, there are the words themselves. When communicating, it is important to keep in mind that words make up only 7% of the total.

It is necessary to engage in as much conversation as possible in order to perfect this ability. It is possible to improve one's communication skills by engaging in frequent conversation with one's family, friends, and neighbours, as well as at one's place of employment. Evaluation of both one's strengths and weaknesses in terms of their ability to communicate with others.

The question that arises most frequently in this context is, "How can one improve their communication skills?" The solution is not complicated at all. On this topic, there is a wealth of available literature. There are also professionals who lead workshops and seminars centered on the different ways in which men and women communicate with one another. In point of fact, a significant number of businesses are hiring instructors to regularly lead training sessions on the topic in order to provide assistance to their workforce in the maintenance of improved interpersonal work relations.

Communication abilities have evolved to the point where they are now considered one of the most important qualifications for prospective employees. The majority of interviewers make their decisions about candidates based on how well they communicate during the interview process. They are of the opinion that skills can be acquired on the job, but that it is essential for employees to have strong communication skills because each worker acts as the company's representative in some capacity. There are instructors available who focus on developing and delivering individualized training courses on the topic.

The main two broad heads of Communication are Verbal Communication and Non-Verbal Communication.

Verbal communication is one way for people to communicate face-to-face. Some of the key components of verbal communication are sound, words, speaking, and language.

Nonverbal communication describes the process of conveying meaning in the form of non-word messages. Research shows that the majority of our communication is non-verbal, also known as body language. Some non-verbal communication includes gestures, body language or posture; facial expression and eye contact, and object communication.

Even with today's most advanced electronic media and gadgets available on the market, such as mobile handsets, electronic mail, the internet, Facebook, orkut, Twitter, and other forms of social networking, people's communication skills have not been able to improve as a result of their use of these platforms, which instead contribute to a decrease in those skills.
There are many different ways to improve one's communication skills, but the following three rules are a good place to start: It is important to put in the effort to improve your pronunciation and diction, as well as to develop the habit of reading and writing. Improving one's reading and writing skills contributes to the development of improved communication. Thirdly, make it a routine to interact with other people and share your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions with them.

For lighter moments enjoy the following activity on Oral Miss-Communication. When the sun disappears behind the moon for two minutes.

Memo from Director General to Manager :

Today at 11 o'clock there will be a total eclipse of the ss this is
something that cannot be seen every day, so time will be allowed for
employees to view the eclipse in the car park. Staff should meet in the
car park at ten to eleven, when I will deliver a short speech introducing
the eclipse, and giving some background information. Safety goggles will
be made available at a small cost.

Memo from Manager to Department Head :

Today at ten to eleven, all staff should meet in the car park. This will
be followed by a total eclipse of the sun, which will disappear for two
minutes. For a moderate cost, this will be made safe with goggles. The
Director General will deliver a short speech beforehand to give us all
some background information. This is not something that can be seen
every day.

Memo from Department Head to Floor Manager :

The Director General will today deliver a short speech to make the sun
disappear for two minutes in the eclipse. This is something that can not
be seen every day, so staff will meet in the car park at ten or eleven.
This will be safe if you pay a moderate cost.

Memo From Floor Manager to Supervisor :

Ten or eleven staff are to go to the car park, where the Director
General will eclipse the sun for two minutes. This doesn't happen every
day. It will be safe, but it will cost you.

Memo from Supervisor to staff :

Some staff will go to the car park today to see the Director General
disappear. It is a pity this doesn't happen every day.
