Why only English?
From Indian context and from colonial background, it is due to the expansion of British colonial power. Secondly it is more nearer to us and that supersedes the British rule is emergence of the United States as the leading economic power.
In majority of countries, English is used as a second language. Most of us in our day to-day life use mix and speak at least hundred words of English in while we speak in our own mother tongue or regional language. Native speakers are alarmed of the lesser use of mother tongue and negligence of mother tongue.
Few others opine that English language has gained international significance because of its ability to adapt and alter change. English as a means of communication is good at incorporating the 'other language/s words and phrases’ into its own and also accepts the variation in speaking and integrate, as not much of variation is seen in written English.
Different nations culture has also influenced English, as the language is spoken with different accent in different countries be it British or American, Scottish or Indian style of accent. This variation is because of different people all over the world have shaped it with in their own cultural habituation.
The birth of the Internet is again an added gain to this language. Internet has created a global evolution of the computer usage and English language, with almost 75 to 80 percentage of the world’s information now stored in digital format, again in English.
Most of the search engines are based in the U.S.A and the major computer languages are set in English language. Thus, English-speaking countries are definitely advancing with the advantage of language when it comes to communicating with the world.
Most of our youth are acquiring English language skills as it is seen to be one of the stepping-stones towards success.
Well, English has proven to be easy for communication. It works wonder especially in work places and establishes a good rapport even with multilingual speakers.
Easier to learn and understand when compared with other foreign languages. Craze for learning a foreign language do exist, as it has its own added advantage. Nevertheless, as it sounds it is not that easy to master a new language be it foreign languages like French, German, Spanish, Japanese or Chinese. Each language has its own beauty and its own hardship. In this regard, English is quite simpler, easier to learn and understand.
It builds up confidence and relationship. Knowing, understanding and easy to communicate, builds up confidence and builds up relationship. Most of our youth are quite confidence to speak, express well in English than one’s own mother tongue. As we are most of the time not only speaking in English but also relating and expressing in English.
Conclusion
To survive in today’s world Knowing English is crucial. Absence of English language is absence from mainstream. English not only just helps in communication or for expression infact, moulds one’s career and personality.
