World in English net-- II Why only English? From Indian context and from colonial background, it is due to the expansion of British colonial power. Secondly it is more nearer to us and that supersedes the British rule is emergence of the United States as the leading economic power. In majority of countries, English is used as a second language. Most of us in our day to-day life use mix and speak at least hundred words of English in while we speak in our own mother tongue or regional language. Native speakers are alarmed of the lesser use of mother tongue and negligence of mother tongue. Few others opine that English language has gained international significance because of its ability to adapt and alter change. English as a means of communication is good at incorporating the 'other language/s words and phrases’ into its own and also accepts the variation in speaking and integrate, as not much of variation is seen in written English.
