Native Tribes-Our Great Teachers!!

Image
I conducted a one-week training workshop on Puppetry at Nizamabad. Two Gonds tribe youth who are pursuing their higher education also accompanied me. I was moved by their involvement, commitment, and sincerity. Gonds tribes (Tribes known as Adivasi) are spread across Telangana, Maharashtra, and are also in Madhya Pradesh. They speak the  Gondi language -- it's  new and quite funny. Interestingly, the Gondi language belongs to the  Dravidian family of languages and is related to Tamil and Kannada.   I liked the language and as an eager language learner, I am now learning this language at a low pace. I love their music and songs. During my interaction, I could gather lots of information about the harmonious living nature of these Gonds , Eco-friendly practices, culture, eating habits, and so on. Let me introduce the two young Gonds One Mr. Soyam Bheemarao --I call him "Doctor"-...

No Fans in Burma/Myanmar

Recently, I came in contact with Mr. Yerra Naidu who had spent his childhood in Burma. While having a conversation with him, I could recall old Tamil Classic movies which connects to Burma (Shivaji Ganeshan, NTR and so on). Many from South India especially Telugu and Tamil speaking had fed to Burma on employment and returned during 1970's or so after the war or during emergency declared in 1975. Many returned with Burma Teak wood and  got big entrance  doors well carved with Burma Teak and furniture made out of it. Well, Mr. Yerra Naidu who is now on a self imposed assignment of teaching Telugu through Burmese language to all the Telugu or Andhra native settlers in Burma. Now there are evening schools started in various places and many young generations are showing interest to learn their mother tongue!!! During our conversation, he narrated that in Burma people (Burma native and non native) don't use a ceiling fan or table fan even in peak summer...

Rescuer and Restorer of Telugu Language, Literature and Culture-Sri Sa Vem Ramesh

Image
Sa. Vem Ramesh as he is known by Telugu Speaking people is a man of versatility and simplicity. A Post Graduate in Anthropology from Madras University, Chennai is basically a Telugu-speaking person. His interest to work for "Telugu Language" grew after his Post Graduation. He is fluent in Tamil, Kannada, and Telugu not only to speak but can read and write too. He also learned to write a dread Smihali language. I call him "Encyclopedia of Telugu"- I am not very happy with the word encyclopedia, any other word perhaps better than this would suit him. Unfortunately, I am not able to figure out that word. Anybody can suggest me...... Well, the reason for calling so is that he has made/is still in extensive, authentic research and is still on his work (he is not affiliated to any university or institution. It is his personal interest that he has taken this research work. His research work is personal and this gives him amp...
